Tommy 8
TOMMY is a 3 year old brindle boy, tall and slender. He shares with AMY, with whom he has kennelled for 3 years. They are so sweet together and would make the most amazing ready made pair (hint, hint!). TOMMY is a marvellous, gentle walker.

TOMMY AT THE PARK.

As we have said, we are very keen to home TOMMY with AMY, so they visited the park together. However, here is TOMMY's individual report:

TOMMY jumped into the car without a problem but needed help to get back in. On arrival at the park, he was inquisitive and interested in his new surroundings. He had a good old sniff.

TOMMY was highly alerted when an off lead westie approached and was strong and pully. He did a lunge to get to the dog as it passed by. However, he was manageable as he was wearing a harness (a perfect example of why a firm lead, harness and muzzle coupled with owner awareness are highly recommended during at least the early stage of owning a new greyhound, particularly when meeting or passing non sight hounds).

TOMMY looked behind a few times to see if it was coming again. Encounters like this can cause both excitement and insecurity or feelings of fear of the unfamiliar with some of the dogs just out of racing.

Later on the walk he did see a larger dog and again was interested, but was less pully and didn’t lunge as much. A dog passed which growled at him, he stood still and retreated slightly.

It takes patience, familiarity and positive experiences to help our dogs adjust to their new lives.

TOMMY is a good walker and plodded contentedly alongside AMY, although he could be a little shy and unsure at some points. This would have been his first walk outside the kennel environment. It will get easier, TOMMY, promise.
